Title: Three Lebanese Killed in Fuel Shortage-related Incidents

A security source and a military statement reported that three Lebanese were killed on Monday in clashes related to fuel shortages, as the ongoing economic crisis increases pressure on the population. Lebanon is suffering from an economic collapse, with its currency losing over 90% of its value in less than two years, leading to shortages of fuel, electricity, and medicine. This crisis seemingly worsened this week amid a severe shortage of fuel necessary for running generators, resulting in long lines at gas stations. According to the military statement, a man was killed during a dispute over fuel filling in the town of Dhunna. The statement noted that two others were killed in Tripoli, which a security source attributed to a fuel-related dispute. As Lebanon's political elite reaches an impasse over the formation of a new government, local media have reported that Lebanese people are organizing small protests in various parts of the country to complain about the shortage of essential goods and government inaction. Lebanon had started subsidizing fuel due to the crisis but has recently been forced to raise prices. In June, the central bank requested permission from the government to withdraw from its mandatory reserves to fund imports.
