A British press report has discussed new developments concerning Egyptian star Mohamed Salah's future with English club Liverpool as his contract with the team nears its expiration. The Egyptian star's agreement with the Reds extends until the summer of 2023, but the player has not yet entered serious negotiations with the club's management regarding a renewal, as confirmed by multiple media reports.
The "Daily Mail" newspaper revealed in its report new updates about the Egyptian star's future, following a controversial tweet from his agent last Saturday night. Rami Abbas, the player's agent, tweeted: "I hope they watch," after Salah's impressive performance against Norwich City in the opening round of the Premier League, where he scored one goal and assisted two others for his teammates.
Abbas's tweet was interpreted as a message to Liverpool's management, with the "Daily Mail" stating that it implies the offer made by the Reds for renewing the Egyptian star's contract does not match his contributions to the team's performances.
Will the Reds' management succeed in retaining Mohamed Salah? The newspaper clarified that the English club is keen on keeping the player, and Salah is open to continuing and renewing his contract, but the two parties have not yet reached a final agreement.
It noted that the Reds' management has renewed the contracts of key players, such as Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and Fabinho, to maintain team stability; however, the situation regarding Salah remains unclear. The report stated that the Egyptian star currently earns a salary of £200,000 per week and added that the Reds’ management would need to increase his wages to persuade him to renew.
It pointed out that the current financial crisis facing football clubs could impact the negotiations between the two sides, as Liverpool's management fears an increase in player wage bills may exceed the allowed limit, potentially putting the club on the brink of a major crisis.
