The Algerian National Gendarmerie has revealed new details in the case of the forest fires in the Kabylie region and the murder of the young victim Jamal Ben Ismail. In a press statement, the gendarmerie announced that 16 people have been arrested in connection with the fires that affected the forests of the Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou provinces. It was noted that the arrested individuals, eight from Tizi Ouzou and eight from Bejaia, are all affiliated with the "MAK" organization.
The statement mentioned that among those arrested is a founding member of "MAK," the organization's treasurer, a coordinator, and a journalist. It emphasized that in-depth investigations led to the discovery of the involvement of 11 additional individuals in the forest fires, who have been detained for some time in connection with the murder of Jamal Ben Ismail.
In other words, these developments in the investigations strengthen the hypothesis that Jamal was killed because he "knew more than he should" about the fires, necessitating his elimination. The National Gendarmerie stated that "investigations into the fires are still ongoing with the aim of arresting all those involved, and the detainees will be referred to the specialized criminal court in Sidi Mahmed as soon as legal procedures are completed."
