# The Mysterious Split Rock in Saudi Arabia

This rock has always amazed everyone who sees it, especially since it appears to be split into two halves as if it were cut by a laser. What is the secret of this rock, known as "Al-Naslah," as referred to by the people of Tayma, which has regained attention in recent days after Twitter users shared stunning photos of it?

The "Al-Naslah" rock, as the residents of Tayma in Saudi Arabia call it, is one of the famous geological wonders in the southern part of the province. Its almost geometric division into two halves marks it distinctly, and it has a conical shape due to weathering and wind effects. The rock also features a variety of Thamudic engravings and animal-shaped petroglyphs.

It is approximately 8 meters long and rests on two bases that remarkably support the two separated rocks, making it one of the most important tourist sites in Tayma. It has remained resilient against the passage of years and its fluctuations to this day. Furthermore, the engravings found on it indicate the importance of the area during past eras.

According to Dr. Abdulaziz bin Laboun, a Saudi geologist, the reason behind the splitting of this rock, located 245 km from Tabuk, is that it is over 400 million years old and approximately 8 meters long. He pointed out that the bases supporting the two rocks include one smaller on the left, which is weaker, and another on the right, which is stronger.

The Thamudic rock inscriptions, which the ancient rock bears, date back thousands of years and illustrate how the inhabitants lived in that region long ago. He added that the images of various animals, birds, and reptiles found on it were used as markers for caravans and travelers, as well as for identifying valleys and plains, making it one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Saudi Arabia.

As for the reason behind its amazing split, he explained that the main cause is the displacement of the left side (which is the weaker one) that led to this precise splitting. He denied rumors tied to folklore regarding the splitting of the rock.

According to popular stories, "Al-Naslah" bears witness to a famous love story that has lasted for centuries, surrounded by many legends. One such tale suggests that Antara ibn Shaddad would tie his horse there to meet his beloved Abla.

Tayma is rich in diverse tourist sites and heritage that complement each other to provide a unique experience for visitors. "Al-Naslah" is considered one of the prominent tourist trails and is well-received by both the locals of Tayma and visitors from various regions due to its natural beauty and ancient inscriptions.
