The Dubai government has announced the completion of the main line for the Etihad Rail project connecting the Emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Emirates News Agency "WAM" reported today that Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, along with Sheikh Diab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and Chairman of Etihad Rail Company, witnessed the connection between Abu Dhabi and Dubai via the main line of "Etihad Rail." They laid the last piece on the railway track, signaling the beginning of a new phase of logistical and economic integration between the two emirates, paving the way to connect the other emirates with a comprehensive national railway network in the UAE.
The completion of the main line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is part of the "National Rail Program" that the UAE recently launched, under the umbrella of the Fifty Projects initiative. The program, which has an estimated investment value of 50 billion dirhams, represents the largest transportation system of its kind across all UAE emirates, aiming to map out the railway sector for the coming years and decades. It is expected to provide economic opportunities worth up to 200 billion dirhams.
The "Trafi - Al Awir" route spans 256 kilometers, including 29 bridges, 60 crossings, and 137 drainage channels. The total excavation and filling works reached 46 million cubic meters. A total of 13,300 workers participated in the project, achieving 47 million work hours.
