Qatar has won the right to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup after the executive committee meeting of the Asian Football Confederation held this morning in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. The Qatari bid outperformed the bids from South Korea and Indonesia in the voting process. This will be the third time in Qatar's history that it hosts the Asian Cup finals, having previously organized the tournament for the first time in 1988, which was won by Saudi Arabia, and for the second time in 2011, which was won by Japan. Qatar is also set to host the FIFA World Cup from November 20 to December 18, 2022, making it the first Arab nation to hold the major football event and the first time the tournament occurs in winter.
