Investigators have opened a criminal case regarding the incident of 22 freight cars derailing on the "Trans-Baikal" railway in the Amur region of eastern Russia. The Eastern Transport Investigative Division of the Russian Investigative Committee stated in a press release that a criminal case has been initiated concerning the derailment, suspected of violating traffic safety rules "which caused significant damage." Authorities continue to conduct investigations to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the incident involving a coal-laden train, and the extent of the damage is being assessed. The derailment of the 22 freight cars temporarily closed a section of the railway and delayed several passenger trains, but did not result in injuries or pose environmental safety threats.
