Gantz: The Demarcation Agreement Does Not Guarantee Future Tensions with Lebanon

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz praised the emerging maritime border agreement between Israel and Lebanon on Sunday, should it be signed, but noted that it does not guarantee the prevention of future tensions between the two countries. The Israeli official stated, "Ultimately, this is an agreement that is fundamentally economic – and if signed – it will benefit us and Lebanon and its citizens who have been suffering from a severe crisis for years to come."

Regarding the nature of the negotiations, Gantz said: "Of course, during negotiations, details cannot be disclosed to the public, but if we reach a final version of the agreement, it will be placed on the Knesset table, and its main points will be presented to the public in an organized and transparent manner." In terms of the technical aspect, he mentioned that the agreement – if signed – does not guarantee the prevention of future tensions with Lebanon, but undoubtedly, it will enhance stability and deterrence, and in the long term, will weaken Lebanon's dependency on Iran, which provides it with fuel and other means.
