An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Hatay province in southern Turkey. The tremor was felt by residents in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Israel. Reuters reported that the sound of buildings collapsing was heard in the city of Antakya, which had already suffered significant damage from an earlier earthquake in the region. The earthquake caused a power outage in Antakya. In Lebanon, some residents living in upper floors rushed to open spaces and streets out of fear of aftershocks.
