An Unexpected Benefit of Overweight

Weight gain is a significant issue that many people face today, as it can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and more. Specialist in gerontology Dr. Vladimir Khavinson noted that in some cases, excess weight can be beneficial to a person. Khavinson and his colleague Dr. Tatiana Trofimova referenced studies conducted in the United States, which suggest that excess weight helps resist infectious diseases and inflammation. Experiments indicated that individuals with a few extra kilograms were better able to overcome infectious diseases than others. Trofimova stated, "Patients who follow a strenuous diet are more prone to infectious diseases." Khavinson remarked, "It turns out that excess weight has a protective function in the case of a viral or bacterial infection outbreak." The experts emphasized that "constant fluctuations in weight negatively affect a person's health. Therefore, maintaining stable weight is essential."
