U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced today, Thursday, the provision of new humanitarian aid worth $150 million for the African Sahel region, stating that it will provide support to save the lives of refugees and others affected by conflicts and food insecurity. Blinken made this announcement during a visit to Niger, noting that the aid will address needs in Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, and Mauritania. He added that the package also includes funding to support refugees from the Sahel region in Libya and Niger. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the United States and Kenya will hold the first round of negotiations as part of their strategic partnership in trade and investment from April 17 to 20.
