Brazil: Heavy Rains Displace Thousands

Brazilian authorities announced that two people have died and more than 4,000 others have been displaced due to heavy rains that have been falling for several days in several areas. The rains in the state of Santa Catarina in the south of the country caused floods that resulted in the deaths of two people, one of whom was electrocuted and the other buried in a landslide, according to local civil defense. A firefighter is still missing.

Images published by the authorities showed entire areas in the city of São João Batista submerged in floods, while Santa Catarina authorities reported that there are more than 1,000 displaced individuals, and over 4,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the northeastern state of Bahia. Several regions in Brazil have been experiencing heavy rains for days, and a landslide on Monday on a highway in a mountainous area of Paraná state resulted in at least two fatalities.
