Tunisian President Suspends Judge from Duty

The Tunisian Judges Association announced in a statement that "Tunisian President Kais Saied has suspended a counter-terrorism judge from duty following his decision not to imprison one of the suspects in the recent wave of arrests launched by Saied against prominent opponents." This wave of arrests is the largest since Saied took power. His opponents point out that "it is clearer than ever that he has undermined the democracy established in the 2011 revolution that sparked the Arab Spring and will end the freedoms it brought." Saied stated that "what is happening is an accountability of conspirators against state security," promising to continue "the prosecution of criminals."
