Study Links Heart Dysfunction to COVID-19 Infection

A recent medical study revealed a connection between COVID-19 infection and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). According to the study published in Nature Cardiovascular Research, there is a link between patients diagnosed with long-term COVID-19 and POTS, which affects blood pressure and heart rate. Dr. Alan Kwan, the lead author of the study and a cardiologist at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, noted that POTS impacts the autonomic nervous system.

The study analyzed data from nearly 300,000 individuals between 2020 and 2022 who contracted COVID-19. Researchers found a slight risk of developing POTS after 90 days of receiving an mRNA-based vaccine. They also indicated that the risk of developing POTS was five times greater for those who had contracted COVID-19.
