The Ecuadorian prison authority announced today, Saturday, that 12 inmates were killed in a prison due to a new clash between gangs, marking the latest incident of violence inside the country’s prisons in South America. The clashes followed the murder of three policewomen outside a prison in Guayaquil. The prison authority had previously reported finding six inmates hanged inside one of the wards of the La Penitenciaría prison.
