The death toll from Hurricane Ian in the state of Florida has risen to 42, as it continues its path toward the Carolina coast, having devastated a large part of Florida's coast over the past two days. The National Hurricane Center told CNN, "We must understand that Ian's transition to a post-tropical hurricane does not mean it no longer poses a threat." Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center has issued warnings about the hurricane causing storms along the coasts of North and South Carolina. Local authorities have urged residents to quickly finalize preparations for protection against the storm. Significant flooding is expected on the coasts of both states, as well as in southeastern Virginia, according to the center. On Thursday, President Joe Biden declared Florida a "Major Disaster Area" due to the hurricane, which has caused widespread catastrophic damage throughout much of Southwestern Florida, where 2.6 million people remain without electricity. On Wednesday, Hurricane Ian struck the Gulf Coast of Florida, bringing heavy storms and torrential rains.
