New Zealand authorities seized 3.2 tons of cocaine valued at over 300 million dollars, believed to be on its way to Australia, found floating on the surface of the ocean. The New Zealand police stated in a statement that the drugs were recovered from the Pacific Ocean in a joint operation with the Customs Department and the Defense Force of the country.
A photo released by the police showed the drugs before recovery in a net secured on the ocean surface by buoys. No one has been arrested yet in connection with the matter. Police Inspector Andrew Coster stated, "This is one of the largest drug seizures carried out by authorities in the country."
Acting Customs Director Bill Perry explained that the value of the seizures is estimated at 500 million New Zealand dollars (320 million dollars).
