Cautious Calm in Ain al-Hilweh After Armed Clash

Calm has returned to Ain al-Hilweh camp following an agreement to cease fire after a bloody family clash between the Qablawi and al-Bahthi families resulted in three injuries and significant material damage. The conflict began in the lower street between a group of young men from the two families due to a previous dispute, using sticks and iron rods before escalating into an armed clash involving all types of firearms, including grenades and some RPGs, lasting for five hours.

Palestinian contacts from various factions were made to stop the fighting, with Palestinian envoy Ashraf Dabbour and leaders from both families intervening for de-escalation. Although a ceasefire was achieved, it was repeatedly violated. Currently, complete calm prevails in the camp, but residents of the Zayb neighborhood and the lower street woke up to the significant losses in homes, vehicles, and commercial shops, some of which were burned and others were completely or partially damaged, raising concerns about who will compensate them amid the ongoing economic and living crisis.
