French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called for sanctions against Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for the Argentine national team, following his actions after the "Qatar 2022" World Cup final against France. The "Tango Dancers" clinched the world title last Sunday after defeating the "Roosters" in a dramatic scenario, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in regular and extra time.
Martinez went on to provoke the French, specifically Kylian Mbappe, a Paris Saint-Germain striker, by requesting a minute of silence for him in the dressing room during celebrations with his teammates. He was also seen holding a child-sized dummy with the face of Mbappe during the victory celebrations in Argentina.
Le Maire commented to Radio "Sud": "What is FIFA doing? Sports mean fair play; it’s about respecting the opponent and respecting the losing side."
