The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center announced that "an earthquake with a magnitude of 5 struck the southeast Pacific region." The center noted that "the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers, with its epicenter located 3,178 kilometers west of Valdivia, Chile."
