The Chinese newspaper Global Times reported today, Tuesday, that a senior expert working with the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources stated that China plans to gradually and phasedly raise the retirement age to address the increasing number of elderly people in the country. Jin Weigang, the head of the Chinese Academy of Labor and Social Security, noted that China is looking for a "progressive, flexible, and diverse approach to raising the retirement age," which means it will initially increase by several months and then will rise subsequently. Jin added, "Those nearing retirement will have to postpone retirement for several months."
