Turkish Foreign Minister in Egypt for the First Time in Nearly a Decade

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu arrived today, Saturday, at Cairo International Airport, marking the first such visit to Egypt in over a decade. The visit comes in response to an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, for joint discussions between the two countries. Sources at Cairo Airport reported that the Turkish foreign minister arrived on a private plane and was welcomed by Ambassador Ihab Nasr from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry previously stated that "Çavuşoğlu's visit initiates a path to restore normal relations between the two countries and launch an in-depth dialogue on various aspects of bilateral relations." The itinerary for the Turkish foreign minister's visit includes a bilateral meeting with Shoukry at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Cairo Palais, followed by extensive discussions attended by delegations from both countries, and then both ministers will participate in a joint press conference.
