The disaster management authority in Malawi announced today, Wednesday, that the death toll from Tropical Cyclone Freddy has risen to 225 from the 190 reported yesterday, Tuesday. The authority added in a statement that 707 people have been injured in the storm, and 41 are still missing as heavy rainfall continues in several regions of the country located in southern Africa. Cyclone Freddy swept through central Mozambique last Sunday before moving into Malawi during the night, accompanied by heavy rains and fierce storms. Cyclone Freddy has set record-breaking statistics for duration and intensity of tropical cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere.
