The US State Department urged Iran on Thursday not to carry out death sentences against three individuals involved in anti-government protests that erupted following the death of a young Kurdish Iranian woman last year. Deputy State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters that "the execution of Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashimi, and Saeed Yaqoubi would be an affront to human rights."
