A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Ecuador. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake was recorded 559 km west of the city of Esmeraldas, which has a population of 165,000, and 538 kilometers northwest of the city of Muisne, which has a population of 13,000.
