The security authorities in Qena, led by Major General Ali Al-Asy, arrested a booza seller in possession of four barrels of booza after 200 people were reported to have been poisoned in the village of Al-Adhahya in the Abu Tisht center, northern Qena. The incident began when Major General Ihab Taha, the security director of Qena, received a notification from the operations room about a report of 70 people suspected of poisoning after consuming booza in the mentioned village. A source at Abu Tisht Hospital stated that "the hospital received 70 suspected poisoning cases from the drink, with stable cases having been discharged, while 37 remained under medical care, and the total number of cases received rose to 175, including those who recovered." The injured were transferred to Abu Tisht Central Hospital, a report was filed about the incident, and the relevant authorities were informed to conduct the investigations.
