Earthquake of 7.4 Magnitude Hits Tonga Islands; No Tsunami Warning Issued

The U.S. Geological Survey announced that a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck an area off the coast of Tonga in the South Pacific. The agency reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 212 kilometers, with its epicenter located 73 kilometers northwest of Hihifo in Tonga. The U.S. tsunami warning system indicated that no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.
