Israeli army radio reported that "Cyprus has been chosen as the location for drills simulating a war with Lebanon under the name (Blue Sun), due to its geographical nature resembling southern Lebanon." It added that "the joint maneuvers of the air and ground arms will include training for combat in rugged, complex, and unfamiliar areas for the fighters, and during these exercises, they will train in airborne troop transport and landing in the battlefield."
