The Italian coast guard rescued more than a thousand migrants and brought them to the southern shore today, Saturday, after saving three boats struggling in rough seas off the coast of Calabria. A vessel from the Italian coast guard transported 584 people to the city of Reggio Calabria, while another took a boat carrying 487 migrants to the port of Crotone, near the site of a shipwreck on February 26 that resulted in 74 fatalities. Local officials reported that two hundred migrants were rescued off the coast of Sicily, and they will be transferred by sea to Catania later today.
