Angry protesters dissatisfied with reforms in the salary system greeted French President Emmanuel Macron with chants, signs of displeasure, and banging kitchenware during his visit to a factory in eastern France on Wednesday. Macron seemed unfazed by the signs of discontent, stating, "The pots will not help France move forward. Society cannot listen only to those who make the most noise," as he sought to highlight the positive aspects of French labor law.
French media reports indicated that "electricity was briefly cut off in the factory." Macron was booed en masse during a visit to Alsace in eastern France, marking his first trip to the regions since the final adoption of the pension reform. His appearance in the eastern region is his first outing from the capital since signing the bill to extend the retirement age by two additional years.
