The death toll from Tropical Storm Freddy has surpassed 300, as authorities in Mozambique spent several days assessing the damage and loss of life. The disaster management agency in Malawi announced on Wednesday that the number of deaths due to Cyclone Freddy has risen to 225, up from the 190 reported on Tuesday. Earlier, Freddy swept through central Mozambique last Sunday before moving into Malawi overnight, bringing heavy rains and fierce storms. Cyclone Freddy has broken records for the duration and intensity of tropical cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere.
