Death of Japanese Officer in Possible Suicide Incident

Japanese media reported that an officer was found shot in a restroom near the Prime Minister's residence early Friday morning, adding that the police are investigating a potential suicide. The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) stated that the 25-year-old security personnel, who worked in the Metropolitan Police Department's riot police, was discovered bleeding inside a guard center restroom early Friday morning and was taken to the hospital, but was soon pronounced dead. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was not at his residence at the time of the incident, as he was visiting Singapore on his way back to Japan from an African tour. Kyodo News quoted Yosuke Takayama, an official from the Metropolitan Police, stating that the police are "looking into the details" of the case.
