The Bakery Workers' Union in Beirut and Mount Lebanon questioned in a statement the reasons behind citizens being deprived of small-sized bread loaves. They posed another question to the Minister of Economy and Trade in the caretaker government, Amin Salam: "If bread is a sacred right for all citizens, why hasn't a committee been formed to study the cost and production of the bread loaf consisting of experts and competent individuals involving all parties concerned in the bread industry to conduct a field study on the ground with full transparency and objectivity?"
They added: "Where are the tourist resorts and luxury hotels in the north, Sidon, and the south, and the suburb, to justify depriving citizens of small bread loaves, especially as demand for them has increased under current circumstances as a substitute for foreign bread?" They concluded: "Isn't it enough to deprive citizens of manakish and cake?"
