Interior and Municipalities Minister in the caretaker government Bassam Mawlawi confirmed that "Lebanon does not agree to legislate the status of displaced persons because it is not a host country and did not sign the 1951 Refugee Convention. Therefore, decisions related to displaced persons are sovereign decisions." Mawlawi stated in an interview with "MTV": "Lebanon does not accept asylum and is calling for a return plan for the displaced persons with a timeline."
