Death Toll from Congo Floods Rises to 401

The governor of one of the provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Theo Ngwabidji Kasi, announced today, Monday, that the number of deaths from the floods that swept through two villages in the eastern part of the country last week has risen to 401. Heavy rain in the Kalihi area of South Kivu province caused river flooding on Thursday, which submerged the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi. The central government has sent a delegation to Kalihi and declared a national day of mourning today, Monday.
