Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said on Wednesday that he expects Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to reaffirm Turkey's support for Finland's NATO membership when they meet in Ankara later this week. Niinistö stated, "We learned that when Turkish President Erdoğan decided to endorse Finland's accession to NATO, he wanted to fulfill a promise from one president to another." Erdoğan had previously confirmed in a statement, following a speech to his party's parliamentary group, that his country would uphold its commitments regarding Finland's NATO membership.
