A student studying electrical engineering died while attempting to fix an electrical fault in a hospital that had been damaged due to the ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of southwestern Sudan. Engineer Mohamedin Fadl Idris, popularly known as Alaa Dandana, who was 27 years old, was electrocuted at the "Sayyid Al-Shuhada Health Center" in the city of Al-Fasher last Thursday, according to the BBC. Dandana volunteered to keep the health center operational amid fierce conflicts and acts of looting. His friend recounts, "He was known for his smile, even in times of war. He gave his life in service to the people of Al-Fasher." Dandana had written on his Facebook page a motto that says: "Don't wait for opportunities... create them."
