Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, warned that the death toll from the severe earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which has exceeded 28,000 so far, "will double or more." Griffiths visited Kahramanmaraş in Turkey, the epicenter of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday. He added: "We have not actually started counting the dead yet," describing the earthquake as "the worst event in this region in 100 years."
