The Moroccan government announced today, Friday, its intention to spend 6.1 billion dirhams (580 million dollars) by 2026 to develop the tourism sector, aiming to attract more visitors and bring foreign currency into the country.
The Prime Minister's office stated that the government plans to allocate more funds for marketing, develop other types of attractions for tourists, upgrade existing hotels, build new ones, and train more people to work in this sector.
Morocco aims to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026, noting that in 2019, it welcomed 13 million visitors, while 11 million were recorded last year. According to the government, the plan will help create 200,000 new job opportunities in this sector over the next four years.
Tourism revenues increased more than double last year compared to 2021, reaching 91 billion dirhams, surpassing levels from 2019.
