Utah Bans Social Media for Children

The governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, has approved a comprehensive package of legislation to regulate the use of social media, which includes requiring individuals under the age of 18 to obtain explicit parental consent to use platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, as reported by the British newspaper "The Guardian." Cox also signed a bill prohibiting social media companies from using techniques that could cause minors to become "addicted" to these platforms. This law is the first of its kind issued by a U.S. state that prohibits social media from allowing minors access without parental approval.
