Tension Outside the Central Bank in Lebanon

A number of citizens and the "Cry of Deposit Holders" association are holding a protest in front of the Central Bank of Lebanon in Hamra "in rejection of its unjust circulars against depositors." Tension arose outside the Lebanese central bank as protesters launched firecrackers toward the bank, while some attempted to set tires on fire and break into the nearby "Société Générale" bank by prying open the metal doors. Riot control forces intervened to prevent demonstrators from storming the aforementioned bank, and additional reinforcements from the Lebanese Army and riot police arrived at the bank and its surroundings. Additional reinforcements also arrived at other banks in the Hamra area.
