Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani reviewed with the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, Walid Fayyad, various aspects of cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon, for the benefit of both peoples, and ways to develop bilateral relations at all levels. Al-Sudani confirmed during the meeting that Iraq is proceeding with regional economic communication in the energy sector, as well as in plans to address climate change and its environmental and economic impacts, to support stability and economic growth for the Iraqi people and all brotherly and friendly nations.
Fayyad, for his part, conveyed his government's assurances and its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Iraq in developmental fields and continuing partnership and exchange to enhance mutual interests and address global economic challenges. The meeting was convened to follow up on what was agreed upon between the Deputy Director-General for State Security, Brigadier General Hassan Shaqir, and the Iraqi officials regarding the Iraqi government's direction to increase the quantities of fuel oil supplied to Lebanon, which is used in electricity production, thus improving the rates of electricity supply hours.
