The office of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali announced today, Thursday, that a temporary administration has been established for the Tigray region in the north of the country, marking a major step in implementing a peace plan to end the war in the area. The establishment of the temporary administration for Tigray comes as part of a peace agreement signed in South Africa in November between the Tigray People's Liberation Front and the federal government to end the conflict in the region. The Ethiopian parliament removed the Tigray People's Liberation Front, the dominant political party in the Tigray region, from its list of terrorist organizations yesterday, Wednesday, in a key step towards forming a temporary local government after a two-year civil war.
