The French judiciary announced that it has referred a woman to trial for "insulting" President Emmanuel Macron after she described him as "dirty" in a comment on Facebook. The prosecutor indicated that the accused, originally from northern France, faces a maximum penalty of a fine rather than imprisonment. The woman was placed in provisional detention after the local state administrative office filed a complaint against her regarding a comment she posted on Facebook: "This dirty man will address you at one o'clock... We always see this dirty man on television." The woman, in her fifties, supports the protests of the Yellow Vests movement (2018-2019), which cast a shadow over Macron's first presidential term. The prosecutor stated that she is accused of "insulting the President of the Republic" and will be tried on June 20 in Saint-Omer. After her arrest, she commented, "I asked them if it was a joke. I've never been arrested before," adding, "I'm not the country's number one enemy."
