UN spokesperson Stefan Dujarric announced on Friday that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres did not invite the Taliban administration to attend a meeting he is holding with special envoys regarding Afghanistan from various countries in Doha next week. Dujarric stated that the meeting, which will take place in Qatar on Monday and Tuesday, aims instead to focus on reviving "international engagement on shared goals towards a lasting way forward regarding... Afghanistan." The UN was compelled last week to clarify that the meeting will not focus on the potential international recognition of the Taliban administration following remarks from the UN Deputy Secretary-General that raised concerns and confusion.
