The U.S. military announced the killing of a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in an attack in Syria, adding that four American soldiers were injured in the operation. The four soldiers injured in the explosion during this attack in northeastern Syria are receiving medical treatment at a U.S. facility in Iraq. A brief statement from the U.S. Central Command for the Middle East clarified that "the target, Hamza al-Homs, is a prominent leader in the organization." The statement added, "During a joint helicopter raid between the United States and Syrian Democratic Forces in northeastern Syria, a targeted explosion resulted in injuries to four American soldiers and a dog." U.S. forces leading the international coalition against ISIS are deployed in areas controlled by Kurdish fighters in northern and northeastern Syria.
