Paraguayan police announced on Twitter today, Friday, that they arrested Paraguayo Cubas, who came in third in the presidential elections held last Sunday. They added that the arrest was made following an order from the public prosecutor's office. Paraguayo Cubas had led protests to contest the election results and called for a recount, despite international organizations stating there was no reason to doubt the integrity of the elections. Cubas, who received 23 percent of the votes, has been charged with "disturbing the peace" and other crimes according to an arrest warrant issued by the public prosecutor's office.
