Title: Recovery of 72 Bodies in Congo Due to Flooding

The Governor of South Kivu Province, Theo Ngwabidje, announced today, Friday, that 176 people have died as a result of flooding in eastern Congo, as heavy rains destroyed several buildings and forced relief workers to pile up mud-covered bodies. The rainfall in the Kalhe area of South Kivu Province led to the flooding of some rivers on Thursday, resulting in the drowning of the villages of Bushushu and Nyamokobi. A member of a local civil society organization, Kasoul Martin, stated that "227 bodies have been found," adding that "people are sleeping in the open and schools and hospitals have been destroyed."
