U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Wednesday that "the United States is in intense communications with Syria and other countries regarding the American journalist who disappeared ten years ago." Blinken stated in an interview with The Washington Post, "We are in intensive communications about Austin... with Syria, and other countries... We are seeking a way to bring him home. We will not stop until that happens." The White House commented on the case of the missing journalist in Syria, saying it cannot confirm the holding of meetings. The young American, Austin Tice, was one of those drawn to the open battlefield in Syria, entering through the Turkish border on May 30, 2012, and traversing the country to cover events for various newspapers and news agencies until he reached the outskirts of Damascus on his way to Lebanon and then to America, but he disappeared before reaching the Lebanese border.
