Chinese media reported on Sunday that President Xi Jinping won a third term. Xi's five-year term as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China was renewed during a closed voting session, paving the way for his official confirmation as head of state for another term in March 2023. In his speech, the Chinese president pledged to work determinedly to face the challenges facing the country in the upcoming phase. Xi stated, "We will ensure 100 more years of prosperity." The Chinese president told reporters at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, "I would like to sincerely thank the entire party for the trust it has shown in me," emphasizing that "China cannot develop without the world, and the world also needs China," adding, "After more than forty years of arduous efforts for reform and opening up, we have achieved two miracles: rapid economic development and long-term social stability." This third term for Xi will make him the most powerful leader since the founder of the regime, Mao Zedong (1949-1976).
